What would you do if you decide to pursue a course of your choice in one of the top institutes in the United States of America and you do not have the funds? · Merit-Based Government Grants – Though grants are awarded to students based on their financial status and the money required by them to complete the course, some of them are also awarded based on the merit of the students. Some of the merit based programs are – Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program, National Science Scholar Program and the LEAP program. All these programs recognize students achieving academic honors in their high schools in various domains of interest.

· Federal Pell Grants – These are grants awarded to students based on their financial needs. Unlike other grants, the Pell Grants do not require a student to have a minimum grade in his high school. There are other eligibility metrics which the student must meet in order to qualify for Pell Grant. Some of the criteria are – The student must be a US citizen; The student must be pursuing his first undergraduate degree and others. Pell grant amounts are determined by the individual financial needs and the school costs for the course. Individuals who receive Pell Grants are also eligible for the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant.
